Four boys lived alone in the mountains. Their biggest dream was to have a loving mother to accompany them as they grew older and older. To fulfill their wish, the great witch Babaga created a "mother" for them by endowing stones with life. Since then, the boys would be carefully taken care of by their mother, who made clothes, prepared warm meals for them, and gave them the love they craved. Eventually, however, these four boys fell for the same girl and began to fight over her. The mother's attempt to resolve arguments unfortunately provoked anger in boys and made them yell at her, saying, "You are nothing but a bunch of stones...”

About Cai, Shu-Ying
Cai was one of the very first instructors teaching story-telling skills and a co-founder of the New-Tree Library, where people could borrow picture books for free and learn how to read stories with kids. Since 2013, she has been the Secretary-general of The Society of Children's Literature and devoted her time to promoting original Taiwanese children's books. She loves children's company and so far has written many parenting books. “The Stone Mother” is her first picture book.

About Cao, Jun-Yan
Born in Taipei, Cao studied art at National Taiwan Normal University. He went on to work as an art teacher in primary schools, the art director for children’s books in the Department of Education, the art editor of several advertising companies, the chief editor of the Hsin‐Yi Foundation, a judge of the Hsin‐Yi Children Literature Award, and a consultant for several publishing houses. He is considered to be one of the most important illustrating artists in Taiwan. Recently, he has placed his focus on promoting Taiwanese picture books.
