By Zhang, Xiu-Yu

This picture book features the landscape and traditional culture of Taiwan with warm, woodcut illustrations. Andy, a city kid, is sent to his grandmother's home at the countryside by his busy parents who have no time to take care of him. In this unfamiliar, tranquil, and boring new environment, he cannot help but feel rather sad. His grandmother then decides to take him to the nearby orchard full of persimmon trees, up in the mountains. Upon seeing the burning orange persimmons growing on the trees like lovely lanterns, Andy begins to understand the vibrant vitality of nature. After the harvest, his grandmother takes him to the farmhouse in their neighborhood to make dried persimmons, which requires days of peeling, drying, hanging, and delicate handwork. His grandmother tells him that the most important thing after all the hard work is to be grateful for nature's ways and to share their creations with friends and neighbors. Touched and enlightened, Andy never sees "a visit to Grandma" the same again.
