About Ho, Hwa-Jen
Ho, Hwa-Jen is a painter as well as a famous birdwatcher in Taiwan. Born in Taipei in 1958, he used to work as art editor for China Times, art director for the Independence News system, and deputy director of the editorial board for Independence News. He immersed himself in the observation of wild birds in Taiwan since 1980 and used to work as the president of the Raptor Research Group of Taiwan and the president of the Wild Bird Society of Taipei. He specializes in producing ecological paintings of birds in woodblock-printed or illustrated picture books. Ho has held several print exhibitions and repeatedly won the Golden Tripod Award and the Little Sun Award. As a bird expert and an artist, he educates every of his viewers about the ecology of birds through every woodblock print and picture book. His picture books beautifully balance the consideration of science, aesthetics, and literature. Lately, he has moved to Yilan. He has spent more time observing the wild birds of Lanyang Plain in different seasons and has been taking these observations into his writings and books.
His picture books include: Painted Snipe Daddy, Bird Songs, The Owl in the Small Island, The Travel of the Gray-faced Buzzards and the wild birds picture books series including The Four Seasons of the Birds in Taiwan, Cool Wild Birds, and Wild Birds are Good at Hiding.
