Sometimes 有時候
by Ali Ginger
◎ The debut picture book of award-winning illustrator Ali Ginger!
This picture book was inspired by the 3/11 earthquake that struck Japan in 2011. Her piece “Cycle”, which was selected for Italy’s Bologna Illustrators Exhibition 2012, depicts animals turning into monsters due to the exposure to radioactive substances from the nuclear explosion. The piece became a starting point for Sometimes, some of whose illustrations were the ones that aroused Japanese judges’ interest in the 2012 Bologna Exhibition.
This book depicts “some times” of a day from the morning to the night. Her paintings portray several elements in natural settings: silence, peacefulness, fierceness, turbulence, and so on. Sometimes does more than just showing you pictures of nature, people, and time. The author wishes to evoke a sense of hope for our everlasting Mother Nature, increase public awareness toward environmental protection issues, and, most of all, encourage people to cherish every moment in their lives.
Sometimes, an instant is forever.
